Dublin Frustrations

Being back in Dublin for the last week has been hard.  Weather this time around has been so odd.  It'll be sunny one moment and then suddenly the sky would go gray and minutes later start to hail.

The photos below were taken within 20 minutes of each other:

The highlight of getting caught in painful hail was grabbing Nigerian food at the Intercontinental Food Court.

Oh my god, Parnell Street will be my savoir when it comes to food in Dublin.  Mr. D and I have reached the point where we are pretty tired of pub food and have been disappointed in the lack of variety in Dublin.  We are this close to planning a trip to Italy just so we can get our Ethiopian and Peruvian food fix.  I chatted with a fellow Californian transplant in Dublin who has been here two years and she pretty much confirmed that this lack of variety isn't our imagination.

On our way to grab Nigerian food, we passed a few Chinese restaurants that looked pretty good.  This was a relief  since the most recommended Chinese restaurant in Dublin looked absolutely terrible and falls into the category of no one notices the emperor has no clothes.

On that note, we were told we'd love being south of the Liffey, but so far we've discovered the north side feels more like a real city and has the majority of neighborhoods and restaurants that we like, while most of the places we've been disappointed in have been in the south.  We have our theories as to why, but that's for another day.

I knew it would take a while for me to get used to Dublin, but the hardest part is housing.  We had to switch our corporate housing since we went past our 30 days and the place we were staying at was booked.  We did end up being moved to a much nicer penthouse apartment, but it's still temporary.  I just know if we had our own place I could cook up a storm!
